Saffron Walden-based Wedge Group company, Acrow Galvanizing Ltd has played an
important part in helping to make the new-look Ascot racecourse one of the best
sports facilities in the world.
Acrow Galvanizing Ltd successfully secured a contract to galvanize the impressive
new main gates for the racecourse complete with a stylish crown design in the
centre plus 500 metres of steel perimeter railings for Ascot, which recently underwent
an 18-month re-development programme.
Both the gates and railings were galvanized for Acrow Galvanizing Ltds customer,
Kimber Engineering Ltd, and then powder-coated for a highly protective and professional
finish by Acrows specialist partner company, Conqueror Industries.
In total, Acrow Galvanizing Ltd galvanized some 20 tonnes of steel for the contract,
with each of the gates weighing more than 1 tonne. The special gates, which were
designed to highlight Ascot racecourses associations with Royalty, were fabricated
using 70mm x 40mm solid bar steel for the frames and 25mm diameter infill sections.
The galvanizing and powder-coating processes were specified to provide the ultimate
anti-corrosion protection and aesthetic appeal for the steel gates and railings
at the highly prestigious and high-profile new Ascot course, which re-opened in
June 2006 and which represents one of the main showcases for horseracing in the
UK.
