Scottish Galvanizers Ltd, of Maclellan Street, Glasgow - part of Wedge Group,
the UKs largest independent galvanizing group - has played a key role in ensuring
Scotlands biggest-ever Park & Ride car park facility stays on the right track
for years to come.
The constructional steel sections for Strathclyde Passenger Transports new £4.7m
multi-storey car park at Shields Road subway station have been galvanized to provide
long-lasting anti-corrosion protection against the elements. The advanced galvanizing
process provides a maintenance-free protection coating for 50 years or even longer.
Some 360 tons of steel, in sections up to 16.5 metres long were hot-dipped in
molten zinc at Scottish Galvanizers Ltds modern, fully enclosed galvanizing bath,
which measures 13.4m x 1.2m x 2.95m. The facility can process steelwork up to
20 metres long and meets all the latest environment protection requirements.
The new SPT Park & Ride car park is due to be completed in August 2006 and
will accommodate over 800 vehicles. Scottish Galvanizers Ltd successfully secured
the galvanizing contract from Paisley-based Solway Structural Steel, part of the
UK-wide Barr Ltd group of companies, which specializes in construction, manufacturing,
industrial and environmental projects.
