Sports-mad Stephen Linsley, 19, the son of Humber Galvanizing Commercial Manager,
Tony Linsley, teamed up with sporting superstar Dame Kelly Holmes when he attended
a training camp at Loughborough University.
Stephen, who is studying for his Higher Sports Leaders Award (HSLA) at Scarborough
Sixth Form College and is aiming to read Sports Development at Newcastle University,
was selected to represent the college.
Organized by the Youth Sport Trust and supported by Sport England, Sport Leaders
UK And the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the īStep into Sport residential
camp was designed to inspire and motivate the next generation of sports leaders
in the build up to the London 2012 Olympic games. Dame Kelly, the double Olympic
Champion, was there to open the event and help encourage the youngsters to acquire
the skills, knowledge and qualifications they will need to work as leaders and
volunteers in sport.
Tony Linsley said that Stephen, who is keen on a wide range of sports, especially
hockey and cricket, had gained a huge amount from the course at Loughborough,
which is one of the leading sports academies in the UK: ĻIt was a great opportunity
for him and especially to meet a true sporting legend like Kelly Holmes face to
face.
