A 7ft tall dragon was a monster of a job for Merseyside Galvanizing Ltd. It made
a big change from galvanizing gates, railings, steel balconies and other more
usual items.
But the Wedge Group Company, which has its site at Blackburne Street, Garston,
rose to the challenge of galvanizing the fire-breathing dragon, which was produced
by regular customers The Age of Iron, based at Chatburn, near Clitheroe, Lancashire.
Yvonne Lloyd, of The Age of Iron, said: "The dragon was designed and made here
by Raymond Latham, and each of the dragon's scales has been forged and welded
to the frame. When it came back from Merseyside Galvanizing, we put it on show
outside. I wish I had a pound for everyone who has taken a photograph." The Age
of Iron, which specializes in modern wrought-iron work for the home and garden,
sends all its galvanizing work to Merseyside Galvanizing Ltd at Garston, to ensure
the longest and best possible anti-corrosion protection for up to 50 years or
even longer.
