B. E. Wedge Ltd at Willenhall, West Midlands, has made major contributions to
two of the country’s top sporting venues – the new Wembley Stadium and Lord’s
cricket ground.
The company galvanized more than 27 tonnes of steel blocks and brackets for replacement
seating on Wembley’s middle tier. The plastic seat fixings originally installed
in the showpiece new stadium in London were found to be sub-standard, so B. E.
Wedge’s customer was called in to supply more substantial units.
To start with, B. E. Wedge was contracted to galvanize over 8,000 brackets and
blocks, but this has now been followed up with a further order for between 4,000
and 6,000 more units.
“We must have done something right,” comments B. E. Wedge’s Technical Sales Representative,
Lee Dickens.
The same specialist seating customer also asked B. E. Wedge to galvanize over
10 tonnes of steel (around 8,000 units) blocks and brackets for new facilities
at Lord’s cricket ground.
The world-famous cricket venue had to have the new seating installed in time
for the test match between England and India in July.
