It’s The All-Singing, All-Ringing Pillar-Wedge Tree

Galvanizing specialists Pillar-Wedge Ltd of Heywood, has helped to give Lancashire an eye-catching new landmark and visitor attraction in the shape of a ‘Singing Ringing Tree’ musical sculpture.

Made with galvanized steel pipes which produce a “low tuneful song” when the wind blows - and designed in the form of a windswept tree - the sculpture has been erected on the top of Crown Point, overlooking Burnley and the surrounding Pennines.

It is one of a series of high-profile ‘Panopticon’ (literally means ‘all-seeing’) structures being installed across East Lancashire with funding from the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the Lancashire Economic Partnership. The tree is the result of a large team effort between designers, architects, fabrication specialists – and of course, Pillar-Wedge Galvanizing Ltd.

Danny Flynn, Sales Manager of Pillar-Wedge Ltd, says: “The singing, ringing tree is completely different from anything we have galvanized before, and it was galvanized in sections for maximum anti-corrosion protection in such a hostile environment.

“I have been to see the tree in its new location and it looks really stunning. I’m sure it will be a real talking point and a major feature which will be enjoyed by local people and visitors to the Burnley area for years to come.”
