The region’s leading steel galvanizing company, Humber Galvanizing Ltd, has won
a major contract to galvanize livestock pens for a brand new auction market.
The Hull-based company - part of the Wedge Galvanizing Group - will galvanize
around 100 tonnes of fabricated steelwork which will be installed at the Bridgewater
Livestock Auction Market in Somerset.
The pens will be used for sheep, plus a small number of pigs and both young and
adult cattle on market days. The new facility will be the most modern of its type
in the UK and will replace two older auction markets.
The steel pens are being produced by Humber Galvanizing Ltd’s long-term customer,
A. M. Warkup Ltd, of Lissett, near Driffield, East Yorkshire, which specializes
in high-technology buildings, systems and equipment for the pig-farming industry.
A. M. Warkup Ltd’s UK Sales Director, Nick McIvor, said: “The new auction market
in Bridgewater will be the major livestock market for its area, but like most
markets these days it will also have facilities for other selling events, such
as vehicle auctions.
“The galvanized pens will be delivered to the site between mid-June and mid-September
and the market is due to be completed by October.”
Tony Linsley, Humber Galvanizing Ltd’s Commercial Manager, said: “This is an important new development for Somerset and the South-West, and we
are particularly proud to be involved in such a major project.
“Livestock pens need to withstand a tough working environment, with little or
no maintenance, and we are very confident that galvanizing the steelwork will
ensure they have the best-possible protection against surface damage and corrosion
for many years to come.”
