Concert-lovers and theatre-goers in Hull will get a great view of the Wedge Group’s
expert galvanizing skills when they visit a new Arts Centre, which has been built
close to the city.
A giant 10m x 7.6m steel lattice lighting and sound-system gantry has been installed
at the front of the new Preston Road Arts Centre, which is part of a major regeneration
initiative in the area.
The new Arts Centre has a sliding stage which can be used for outdoor performances,
such as concerts, or moved inside the building for plays and other events.
A total of two tonnes of steel was galvanized for the giant structure through
a successful working partnership between locally-based Humber Galvanizing Ltd
- which secured the arts centre contract – and Pillar-Wedge Ltd, of Heywood, Lancashire.
Pillar-Wedge Ltd carried out the hot-dip galvanizing of the large steel lattice
beams in its massive fully-enclosed galvanizing bath which is more than 10.2m
in length, 1.52m deep and 3.2m wide.
The work was successfully completed on behalf of Humber Galvanizing Ltd’s direct
customer, P & D Engineering Services Ltd of Saltend, Hull, and the main contractor,
Sewell Group, also based in Hull.
