When it comes to high quality galvanizing including wire mesh and perforated
metal plate, nobody does it better than the Wedge Group’s Bradford plant, Metaltreat.
Over many years Metaltreat Ltd has developed its specialist skills and techniques
and today it has a deserved national reputation for expertise in galvanizing wire
mesh and perforated sheets – with customers from many parts of the UK. This high
quality requirement is reflected in the standard of the plants general galvanizing.
Metaltreat’s Commercial Manager Roger Hewitt explains that “In the past, the
West Yorkshire area was well known for manufacturing wire goods, including animal
cages and products for the food industry such as pie trays and bread baskets.
Metaltreat grew out of that and still today 40% of the plant’s production is galvanizing
wire mesh type products. Metaltreat is rightly proud of its ability to achieve
high quality finishes – and the specialist skills it has developed”.
From its roots as a locally-focused business, Metaltreat has become a well respected
general galvanizer and expanded its customer base nationally and even internationally.
Nowadays some of the items it galvanizes are originally produced in France and
Italy, while ‘high security mesh’ is regularly galvanized by Metaltreat before
it is shipped to countries across the world.
Built on the site of a former abattoir (two stone bulls’ heads can still be seen
on the gate-posts!) just a short distance from Bradford city centre, Metaltreat
is one of the Wedge Group’s key sites in the north. With its staff of 44 loyal
employees Metaltreat operates a continuous process Monday to Friday with weekend
working as required and has easy access to the region’s motorway network, providing
a daily collection and delivery service throughout Yorkshire and the North East
of England with its fleet of five vehicles.
Roger Hewitt explains that Metaltreat has customers in a wide range of business
sectors in many parts of Yorkshire and the North East with 70% of the business’s
volume transported by its own vehicles and the plant also has a successful partnership
with a powder coating specialist company in West Yorkshire, making Metaltreat
a ‘one-stop shop’ for customers in the area.
