New Site for East Anglian Galvanizing

Peterborough galvanizing specialist East Anglian Galvanizing Ltd, which owes its success to the city’s ideal location in the UK and the quality of its local workforce, has announced plans for a brand new £6 million, state-of-the-art plant at nearby Sawtry.

Part of the Wedge Group - the UK’s largest independent galvanizing company - East Anglian Galvanizing Ltd will move its complete operation to the new site, which is within approximately 10 miles of the existing plant and close to the A1 (J15), in Spring 2009.

All 42 East Anglian Galvanizing Ltd employees, including office-based administration staff, will be offered the opportunity to move with the company to the Sawtry plant. Additional jobs will be created as a direct result of the new site’s expanded 24-hour/7-day operational capability. For customers the service will be completely continuous and ‘seamless’.

A major feature of this new improved facility will be its industry-leading ‘green’ technology, including an integrated rainwater collection and storage system. This will enable large volumes of rainwater to be recycled into the galvanizing process, eliminate ‘run-off’ from the 2.5-acre site and minimize the use of mains water.

Steve Milnes, Wedge Group’s Eastern Regional Director, said: “This exciting new development represents a major investment by the Wedge Group which will really move East Anglian Galvanizing Ltd forward as a modern, high-quality galvanizing company for the 21st century.

“With its close proximity to the A1 and other major road networks, plus state-of-the-art facilities and modern, purpose-built design, the new plant will significantly improve East Anglian Galvanizing’s service to its many customers throughout the Peterborough, East Midlands, East Anglia and wider areas.

“It will increase our galvanizing production capacity and will incorporate many features designed to improve customer service, such as a new one-way road system around the site, which will maximize the efficiency and speed of our ‘goods in-goods out’ logistics.

“When we were looking for a suitable new site, we wanted to remain as close as possible to Peterborough because the success of the business over the past decades has undoubtedly been based on the locality and the skills and dedication of our excellent local workforce.

“A better working environment and safety provisions for our staff will be given top priority at the new plant, as will the systems and procedures we implement to minimize the plant’s impact on the environment. The new East Anglian Galvanizing site will fully comply with all European and national environment regulations.”

East Anglian Galvanizing Ltd galvanizes steel items for its large customer base, to ensure maximum anti-corrosion and damage protection in a vast number of commercial and domestic applications. These range from structural steel for the construction industry and new sports stadia to gates, railings, stairways and balconies for new housing developments – and much more.
