Humber Galvanizing Ltd is putting a new generation of static caravans and holiday homes on solid foundations with a contract to fully hot-dip galvanize the chassis for the trailers, some of them up to 44ft in length.

Humber Galvanizing, which is based at Citadel Trading Park in Hull and is part of the UK-wide Wedge Group, is carrying out the galvanizing of the latest design of chassis for its customer, Bankside Patterson Ltd, of Beverley, which constructs and supplies the chassis to trailer- and caravan-builders.

The chassis manufacturer awarded the contract to Humber Galvanizing after it developed a 'next-generation' chassis design which could be produced and galvanized in sections, before being assembled.

Bankside Patterson Ltd's Darren Green explained that some of the modern trailers used on trailer parks are as well-equipped as houses and can cost up to £60,000 each: 'There is a growing market for these static caravans and holiday homes particularly in coastal resorts. Logistically and economically we wanted to work with a galvanizing company in our region and the new generation of chassis which can be hot-dipped in sections makes this possible.'

Tony Linsley, Commercial Manager of Humber Galvanizing Ltd, said that fully galvanizing the trailer chassis - compared with painting, as was done previously - provided far greater levels of protection: 'Galvanizing is the natural choice for this type of application because these trailers are usually towed to a park or site and then remain there, exposed to the elements for many years. A chassis which we have galvanized in this way will be protected for up to 50 years or even more.'
