Construction of a brand new £5.5million galvanizing plant commenced earlier this month and was marked by an official ‘turning of the sod’ ceremony at the site in Witham.
South East Galvanizers, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, welcomed staff and contractors to celebrate the occasion, which was led by Chairman and CEO of Wedge Group Galvanizing, Jeremy Woolridge, Eastern Regional Director Steve Milnes and South East Galvanizers’ General Manager David Knight.
The firm, which is based at Western Industrial Estate in Witham, employs 64 people and has been on the current site for over fifty years. It will continue to be fully operational until completion of the new facility on the same site next year.
Jeremy Woolridge said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the start of building work at South East’s new plant, construction of the plant demonstrates our commitment to the region, as well as our support for the local construction industry. The end result will bring significant improvements in the working environment for our staff, as well as in output and productivity on behalf of our customers.”
Building contractor R G Carter has been appointed to undertake the construction of the new facility for South East Galvanizers.
Peter Burton, Construction Director of R G Carter Colchester, commented: “We’re pleased to have commenced work on the project and have already established a good working relationship with the team at South East Galvanizers. R G Carter has built many similar projects for local businesses and I’m confident that we will complete this new facility within our target of 32 weeks.”
