South East Galvanizers Ltd has offered its services to help a local artist create a dramatic entrance to the award-winning Paignton Park in the London Borough of Haringey.
The Witham-based galvanizing plant provided its specialist galvanizing service to Heather Burrell following her appointment to create the work of art by Haringey Council and environmental regeneration charity Groundwork London.
As part of the redevelopment of the rundown community square, Heather was commissioned to consult with the local community and design and produce an entrance feature including reproductions of leaves from the park’s various trees, the name of the park clearly displayed and which would complement the existing Children’s Centre within the grounds.
Following construction of the main sculpture which stands over eight feet high, Heather employed South East Galvanizers to undertake the process of galvanizing the steel, which involved it being dipped in molten zinc at a temperature of 450°C.
Heather Burrell said: “I chose to appoint South East Galvanizers as they always take great care of my work, provide a fast, efficient and high-quality service, and deliver directly to the site. The service they provide is also an essential element of my work, as galvanizing the structure has provided it with life-time protection, ensuring it remains as impressive in twenty years time as it does now.”
Groundwork London worked in consultation with the Friends of Paignton Park to transform the square from a disused and overgrown area into a community space with seating and well-maintained plants for all to enjoy. The entrance used to be just a gap in the railings, but now the park has a stunning feature entrance to be proud of. The new sculpture feature took six months from design to installation and, now in situ, the entrance feature has already received positive comments from both staff and visitors to the park.
Neil Pearson, Sales Manager at South East Galvanizers, commented: “We were delighted when we were approached to assist in this project, which has resulted in the creation of an impressive landmark at an extremely popular and well-used amenity. As an organisation, we are always keen to contribute to the local community and hope that visitors to the park get pleasure from this time and time again.”
