Scottish Galvanizers Ltd, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has secured a prestigious contract to protect over 1,600 tonnes of steel for one of the world’s largest alcoholic drinks producers.
Working on behalf of Ayrshire-based J&D Pierce Contracts, Scottish Galvanizers Ltd will galvanize the structural steel which will form the core of an £86million new facility at Diageo’s Bottling Plant in Fife.
“We’re thrilled to have won the contract and to be involved in such an exciting and high profile project,” explained Paul Tait, Customer Service Manager for Scottish Galvanizers Ltd.
“The new bottling hall at Diageo’s Leven facility will take production at the site to over 30million cases per year, and when opened will create 400 new jobs. The team here at Scottish Galvanizers Ltd have worked with J&D Pierce Contracts across a variety of projects and we’re delighted that they’ve chosen us again for this important role,” he concluded.
The blending and holding facilities at the Leven plant are extremely complex, particularly because they require the formulation and blending of a range of grain and malt whiskies.
“It’s certainly a challenging project,” explained Andy Caldwell, Estimating Manager for J&D Pierce Contracts. “The first phase of the project is due for imminent commencement, with the main phase late September, and the whole project is scheduled to take about 64 weeks.”
“We were really pleased to have been selected by the main contractor, ROK, and were keen to work with the Scottish Galvanizing Limited team again as we knew that we could rely on the superior quality of their work, as well as their commitment to on-time every-time delivery,” he concluded.
