The team at Humber Galvanizing Ltd has supported a local fabrication company with the creation of a life-size sculpture based on a classic mythological fantasy film character.
Steve Albinger, owner of SA Fabrications based in Driffield, Yorkshire, manufactures a range of structures including railings, benches, garden furniture, and sculptures for commercial, industrial and private customers.
His latest commission has seen the construction of a six-foot steel skeleton replicating one of the legendary skeleton warriors originally created by animator Ray Harryhausen for the 1963 film Jason and the Argonauts.
The sculpture was a private commission by a resident of North Frodingham in Yorkshire as part of this year’s planned National Gardens Open Day.
Steve Albinger said: “This project was hugely intricate as every one of the human body’s 206 bones was crafted and joined together individually to make the piece as life-like as possible. It took four weeks of working solidly every day to produce the sculpture from start to finish – a journey that was incredibly enjoyable and rewarding.
“Due to the piece of artwork being commissioned for public display outside, it was crucial that I made sure it was protected, so that it lasts the test of time. I’ve been using the services of Humber Galvanizing for over 20 years – throughout my whole working life – and to ask them to work on this project was a natural decision.
“Once the sculpture was complete, I sandblasted it before sending it to Humber Galvanizing. It was a complex job for the team, as there are so many elements to the piece – but, as always the guys did a fantastic job and I’m so pleased with the result.”
Tony Linsley, Sales Manager at Humber Galvanizing Ltd which is part of Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd, said: “We’ve worked with Steve now for many, many years and he’s a hugely loyal customer of ours. We’re always delighted to support him, and this latest piece of artwork is just one of many that we’ve been proud to galvanize on his behalf. We’re very much looking forward to seeing the final piece in situ in the resident’s garden.
