South East Galvanizers Ltd were delighted to see a sculpture by a pioneering artist awarded a coveted medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The work, entitled ‘Love with the Mind’, was an innovative piece by young British sculptor Charles Elliott.
It was commissioned for Chelsea by Alec White, of Primrose Hall Nursery in Toddington, as part of a brief to create a Shakespearean-inspired steel sculpture as a centrepiece to showcase his garden of award-winning peonies and alstroemeria.
‘Love with the Mind’ featured a galvanized metal sculpture of two bright abstract faces against a dark moss-green wall and a water bank base filled with floating flowers.
The piece attracted significant attention at the Show and, as part of the garden, it was awarded a Silver-Gilt medal - just one point short of gold.
Charles is no stranger to exhibitions, having already shown his work at numerous events across the UK and around the world, including Royal Ascot, Hatfield House and the Royal Chelsea Hospital. His sculpture gardens and showroom can also be viewed all year round at the Charles Elliott Studio in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.
South East Galvanizers were able to accommodate even the largest of Charles’ sculptures using their specialist bath which can vertically dip components of up to three meters in depth.
The plant has worked on a number of Charles’ projects including a full-sized lion sculpture, a series of striking full-sized racehorses and an intricate mild steel Verdigris and Gold Sphere sculpture.
