Manchester Galvanizing has played its part in the creation of iconic gates which now form a striking entrance at the Lakes Distillery in Bassenthwaite, Cumbria.
The plant teamed up with Egremont-based Livingstone Surface Treatments to coat and protect the gates which were produced by renowned Cumbrian metalwork designer, Alan Dawson.
Exclusively designed to showcase the ingredients in the Distillery’s products, including wheat and barley, heather and hawthorn, as well as juniper, the elaborate entrance gates offer a stunning welcome to visitors to the Distillery which opened its doors in December 2014.
Once designed and produced, the gates along with a complementary sculpture depicting distilling casks and stills which were made from almost a tonne of steel, were coated and galvanized to ensure their long term protection.
Eddie Blackmore, Director at Livingstone Surface Treatments, commented: “As specialist corrosion engineers, we are hugely passionate about the importance of protecting assets, whether that be large-scale structures for the nuclear industry or individually-commissioned products such as this one at the Lakes Distillery. We partnered with the team at Manchester Galvanizing because of the their reputation for offering a second-to-none galvanizing service, which formed an important part of this project – particularly in light of the distillery’s location right next to Bassenthwaite Lake in the Lake District National Park.”
Mark Waters, Commercial Manager at Manchester Galvanizing, said: “This has been a fantastic project to have been involved in and there is no doubt that the gates will continue to be a real visitor attraction at the Distillery. We were delighted to provide our services to the team at Livingstone Surface Treatments and to ensure that the gates and their elaborate features are protected from corrosion, rust and weathering for a long time to come.”
