Newport Galvanizers has provided its services to a spectacular new landmark on the seafront of a North East of England tourist destination.
The plant was called upon to provide its hot-dip galvanizing treatment to nearly nine tonnes of steel used by MetaFab Solutions, partner firm MetaFab Coatings, and Lockerwire Group to create the iconic helter skelter style feature installed on Redcar seafront. The vertical pier, which stands at 80 foot tall, has been built as an attraction to encourage more people to visit the popular tourist destination.
The project, which will cost £1.6 million, is being funded by regional development agency, One North East, and the European Regional Development Fund, and is part of a £30 million Redcar Seafront regeneration project put in place to boost the local economy. The structure is expected to officially open to the public early next year, and will provide a 360 degree view over the coastline, a café/bistro, and various units for the creative industries to display their work.
“We are delighted to have been involved in this project,” said Mike Small, Sales Manager of Newport Galvanizers. “We have worked on a number of previous projects with MetaFab Solutions, and they always produce original, bespoke structures, that are iconic to their surroundings.”
Michael Chung, Project Manager of Gloucestershire-based MetaFab Solutions, commented: “We have a long standing, and very good relationship with Newport Galvanizers, who we always turn to when we receive a project that requires protecting from rust and corrosion. Mike and his team always provide a fast and efficient service, which we know we can rely upon.”
