Scottish Galvanizers has been the recipient of a major investment with the recent installation of the UK’s largest steel preparation tanks, which will streamline its operations and benefit its customers across the country.
The plant has invested £500k in the installation of two large pickling tanks to replace its four smaller tanks at its site in Glasgow, which are used to prepare steel before the hot-dip galvanizing process takes place by chemically removing rust, impurities and stains.
Paul Tait, Customer Service Manager at Scottish Galvanizers, explained: “The new tanks are a fantastic addition to the facilities we already have, and will help us further speed up processes, as well as provide capacity to take on even more projects. Galvanizing has a typically quick turnaround, but tanks like this help reduce lead times even more for customers and their own supply chain.
The acid pickling tanks, measuring at 22 metres long, are designed to make the preparation of steel easier before being treated, and enable bigger pieces to be processed.
Paul added: “The new tanks follow on from the recent redevelopment of our office, where we enhanced our meeting and conference areas with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, which has been very well received by our team, customers, partners and suppliers.
“As a result of this positive business growth and major investment, we’re better placed for future growth and expansion, and have the facilities to cater for increasing customer demands – a move which will also see us able to share knowledge with our customers and stakeholders about the galvanizing process and its crucial place in a variety of UK sectors.”
