Humber Galvanizing has played a key role in the creation of a stunning piece of artwork commissioned in honour of a new blockbuster film.
The team was asked by sculptor Mark Irwin to galvanize a steel sculpture of the stray dog featured in the film The Secret Garden, now due for re-release 14 Aug.
Mark, a steel sculpture artist based in York who has previously created pieces for well-known personalities including Alan Titchmarsh MBE, was commissioned by RHS Garden Harlow Carr to design and produce the sculpture for display in its Secret Garden trail which is planned to coincide with the release of the film.
The sculpture features a life size, 90cm tall dog made from 2mm mild steel alongside six robins made from galvanized wire.
Mark Irwin said: “This was an amazing project to work on and I was extremely honoured to be asked to be involved. The Secret Garden is a much-loved classic tale, and for RHS Garden Harlow Carr to bring the real magic of the film and book to the public through its new family trail is wonderful.
“Due to the intricacy of the design, the sculpture itself took about a week to produce, which saw me create a central frame which I then built up with the 2mm mild steel. Because the final piece is to be situated outside, I wanted it to be galvanized to ensure it was protected long-term from all of nature’s elements.
“The team at Humber Galvanizing Ltd always do a fantastic job, and are always mindful and highly respectful of the fragility of my work.
“Any twisting of the steel prior to it being dipped in the galvanizing bath can significantly impact the end result, and can effectively mean I have to start all over again! Everything I create gets galvanized at the Humber plant, and I wouldn’t trust anyone else.”
Tony Linsley, Sales Manager at Humber Galvanizing Ltd, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to support Mark with this particular project which is set to be a fantastic attraction for visitors across the country and beyond.
“The project wasn’t without its challenges due to the elaborate design, but the finished result looks outstanding and we’re extremely pleased with the feedback from Mark.”
