New training kit provided by Merseyside Galvanizing Ltd has brought a change of luck for a junior football team.
Higher Bebington Hearts are playing in the Eastham and District League for the first time this season, and, despite huge effort and great improvement, hadn’t been able to celebrate a victory.
But the under-7s team, based in the Wirral, has turned it all around since the players were handed training tops sponsored by a nearby business.
Three further games have produced three straight wins and Jen Hayes, whose husband Matt took over as manager 12 months ago, is convinced the kit is a lucky charm.
“The boys have put in a huge amount of effort and really enjoy their matches, but they were keen to win a game and get an important confidence boost,” she said.
“But we were given new training tops and everything has changed. We’ve won every match since, so they’ve has certainly brought us a change of fortune.”
Matt is also project manager at CLM Services – a family-run steel fabrication business based not far from the ground Hearts share with several other teams as part of Higher Bebington Juniors.
While the firm sponsors the seven-a-side team, the training kit was donated by Merseyside Galvanizing – with whom it has a long-standing relationship.
Jen added: “CLM sends a lot of steelwork to Merseyside Galvanizing and we’ve worked with them for more than 10 years.
“It was great when we heard they were willing to sponsor the team and the training tops have made a big difference.
“They look really good, they help to keep the lads from freezing in the cold weather and they’ve helped us to climb the league table too!”
Richard Smetham, Sales Manager at Merseyside Galvanizing, said: “CLM have been good customers for a long time so when I heard Matt was looking for support for his team, we were only too happy to help out.
“I’m delighted the training kit has gone down so well and that it’s brought them a change in fortune. I hope their winning streak turns out to be a long one.”
