Wedge Group Galvanizing has played a key role in the construction of a batch of new dog kennels for one of the UK’s most notorious jails.
Eastleigh-based Wessex Galvanizers was called upon to provide its hot dip galvanizing treatment to all of the steel parts used to make the 25 day kennels that have been installed at HMP Belmarsh in London.
West Sussex-based animal housing specialists Sherlocks of Chichester designed and manufactured the steel and Trespa ® into nine new kennel blocks, each measuring 3.66 metres wide by 1.57 metres deep. The kennels will be used to house the prison’s guard dogs during down time, enabling the animals to remain cool during the summer months, whilst keeping them warm over the winter period.
Richard Whiddett, Commercial Manager for Wessex Galvanizers, commented: “Having the steel components used to build the kennels galvanized, will help to ensure the guard dogs are housed in a durable structure that is protected against the elements, rusting and corrosion.”
Sarah Harvey, of Sherlocks of Chichester, commented: “We have worked with the team at Wessex Galvanizers on a series of projects over the past few years, building up a very valuable and professional relationship. As always, they provided us with a reliable and efficient service.”
The Category A male prison at Belmarsh in Thamesmead, London is one of the most high-profile institutions in the country, holding prisoners ‘whose escape would be highly dangerous to the public or national security’.
