Wessex Galvanizers is playing its part in the major regeneration of a neighbouring city’s historical suburbs.
The plant is working alongside Faulkner Gates Ltd to hot dip galvanise an extensive number of steel structures being installed at Crest Nicholson’s Centenary Quay development in the Woolston area of Southampton. The £500 million development, which is scheduled for completion in 2018, is integral to the ongoing rejuvenation of the city’s riverside and is set to comprise a mixture of residential housing and public spaces.
The team at Wessex Galvanizers is currently using its expertise to galvanize over 50 tonnes of steel used by Faulkner Gates Ltd to create decorative balconies, railings and gates being installed throughout the development. The project has already seen the partnership between the two firms produce over 100 balconies and install over 200 metres of external balustrades across the development’s initial phases.
Robert Faulkner of Faulkner Gates said: “We have enjoyed a successful relationship with the team at Wessex Galvanizers for many years now which is why we chose to commission the firm’s services for this prestigious project. With a development of this scale, and particularly with its proximity to the harsh Hampshire coastline, it is vital that the components are properly protected against the elements.”
Richard Whiddett, Sales Manager at Wessex Galvanizers, commented: “The suburb of Woolston is currently undergoing major changes which will transform it from an area famous for its maritime and aviation history, to a modern and thriving community, and we are absolutely delighted to be playing our part.”
