HR Advisor Wins Prestigious Sue Thompson Award

Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd, based in Willenhall, is celebrating the achievements of its Group HR Advisor after she was crowned winner of a prestigious Sue Thompson Award.

Recognising outstanding commitment, effort and dedication to their CIPD learning, Sophie Habgood, was successfully nominated by her line manager Adam Gibson, HR & Health & Safety Director at Wedge Group Galvanizing, with Sophie being recognised despite being in competition with several other HR professionals.

The nomination was accompanied by endorsement from her HR apprenticeship provider, Crosby Management Training Ltd, which hosts the awards in honour of the late Sue Thompson – a much loved professional trainer at Crosby – who after a 17 year CIPD career with them, sadly lost her battle with breast cancer in 2017 at just 63.

Ali House, Qualifications and Assessment Lead at CIPD, said: “I’m delighted that Sophie was awarded the Sue Thompson Award – it was an incredibly tough competition this year, with a record number of nominations showcasing so many inspiring individuals who are making a positive impact in their organisations and the wider industry. Sophie’s dedication and achievements truly stood out, and we are honoured to celebrate her success.”

Adam Gibson, HR & Health and Safety Director at Wedge Group Galvanizing, added: “We are over the moon for Sophie. I nominated her because she’s shown a fantastic level of commitment in multiple aspects of her career. To have achieved the results that she has, all whilst maintaining a high level of performance in her day-to-day work, really demonstrates how committed Sophie is to both the Company and her own learning and development. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and look forward to watching her continue to grow as an exceptional HR professional, hopefully with a life-long career at Wedge.”
