Wedge Group’s Director Achieves Prestigious Sustainability Qualification

Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd is proud to announce that David Nobes, one of its senior management team, has successfully completed a rigorous Masters qualification in sustainability – a milestone that’s already delivering tangible results across the business and beyond.

David’s Masters Degree in Sustainable and Ethical Business Management was completed over two and half years, from March 2023 to July 2025. The course covered a blend of intensive block-study weeks, one-to-one sessions, and applied learning, covering a range of critical subjects including leading sustainable and ethical change, sustainable business strategies, and ethical financing.

He completed ten coursework assignments, each approximately 3,000 words, combining academic theory with real-world examples from within Wedge Group Galvanizing and all 15 of its sites.

The study concluded with a 17,000 word dissertation on “The Case for Embedding Sustainable Strategy into the Galvanizing Sector” – a robust and practical roadmap aimed at guiding the industry toward a more sustainable future.

“It’s been an enlightening and rewarding learning journey,” explained David, Technical Services Director. “We have been delighted with the progress the company has already made and the Masters has given us the confidence and knowledge to build on the already strong foundations for sustainability that we have.

“I am grateful to the senior leadership team and my colleagues in the Technical Services department at Wedge for their ongoing support and patience while I worked through the course. We’re all looking forward to seeing how the initiatives we’ve put in place will evolve over the coming months and years.”

One of the key frameworks adopted as part of David’s training is the Triple Bottom Line – a concept focused on People, Planet, and Profit. Fully adopted as part of its decision-making processes, the structured approach has led to the formation of its Futures Team, the introduction of a new Sustainability Policy, and a centralised sustainability section of the website.

Chris Woolridge, Managing Director of Wedge Group Galvanizing, added: “This qualification and David’s ongoing contribution are invaluable not only to our business but to the wider industry as a whole. We’re proud to be part of the change, and to help galvanize a greener future for us, our industry, and our customers across the country.”

Wedge Group Galvanizing has made impressive progress in reducing its environmental impact, including the implementation of Smartfire furnaces across all sites, heat exchangers, flux treatment units, electrical vehicles and charging points. Plus, the recent trial of hydrotreated vegetable oil as a replacement for diesel – which has helped slash carbon by 81% at its East Anglian plant.
