Worksop Plant Welcomes the Next Generation of Fabricators

Worksop Galvanizing Ltd welcomed nine apprentice fabricators from Caunton Engineering for a full tour of its plant, a demonstration of the hot-dip galvanizing process, and insight into the use of galvanizing across a variety of sectors.

Caunton Engineering, also based in Nottingham, provides a range of apprenticeships and training programmes which are Ofsted accredited, supporting the future of the engineering and construction industries.

Brad Gozzard, Sales Manager at Worksop Galvanizing, said: “We recently welcomed some of the Caunton Engineering management team, who after attending recognised the value it would bring to its cohort of apprentice fabricators.

“We provided insight into the whole process and in particular focused on how fabrication work impacts how we prepare and galvanize steel – such as design for galvanizing, venting, along with other considerations. The attendees said it was really useful alongside their training and gave them a much better understanding of their role in the supply chain, and in particular the galvanizing process. We’ve agreed a yearly visit for Caunton’s fabricators and look forward to welcoming the team again soon.”

Alex Ford of Caunton Engineering added: “Myself, Gary, the first year apprentices and the two new trainee welders conducted a visit out to Worksop Galvanizing, the home of biggest galvanizing bath in Europe and a company we work with a lot.

“The tour involved going through goods inwards, jigging, cleaning and preparation, pickling, the process and finishing up with the fettling process. Feedback from the welders and apprentices has been great and they found it very informative. They now have a much better understanding of why we do what we do when it comes to galvanizing.”
