Brand Moo Troughs, Thanks to Merseyside Galvanizing

A beef cattle farm has enlisted the help of Merseyside Galvanizing to future-proof their feeding troughs.

Family-run business established in the 1860s, J S Pierce in Holywell, North Wales hosts approx. 120 beef cattle each year. They recently sent their brand-new trough frames to be hot-dip galvanized at the plant to extend its lifespan.

Sitting at approx. 2.4m long, the bespoke steel frames were constructed to ensure they’d fit within the openings of the shed, and each is large enough to accommodate between five and seven cattle. An outdoor water trough was also galvanized to prevent it from rust and corrosion.

The previous troughs had rotted away due to the enzymes in the silage; however, the legs were able to be recycled and reused in the new troughs. The trough component is made from 50mm box section, using reclaimed Yorkshire boarding wood.

Geoff and Diane Pierce, Owners of J S Pierce said: “This is the first time we’ve used Merseyside Galvanizing and we will be sending more troughs to them very soon.

“Our son, who fabricates the troughs, recommended Merseyside Galvanizing and the wider Wedge Group to us, as he’s used them before and said they’re the best in the business in terms of quality, speed, and service.”

Richard Smetham, Sales Manager at Merseyside Galvanizing, added: “This was a great project to have worked on, and we’re pleased to know that these troughs will be used – and enjoyed – by many cattle for years to come”.
