Scout Joins the Dragon Trail Thanks to Community Supporters
Wedge Group Galvanizing’s Manchester plant has once again provided its services to a community charity in Towneley as part of its much-loved nature trail.

Towneley Park’s annual Nature Festival has continued to add to its trail which is popular amongst families and children, with the addition of another dragon, named “Scout”, courtesy of the Friends of Towneley Park (FOTP).
The sculpture, which was created by artist Sarah Mae Francis, joins another on the dragon trail which was previously galvanized free of charge by Manchester Galvanizing Ltd to ensure it remains protected against corrosion and rust for years to come.
Judith Glover, a member of the Friends of Towneley Park, wrote a book for children about dragons which inspired the creatures to be featured on the trail. She said: “As a small community charity, we are incredibly grateful for all the support we receive from members of our community. A huge thank you to the talented Sarah Mae Francis for helping bring fiction into form, and to the galvanizing expertise and generosity of Manchester Galvanizing.

Judith said: “Outdoor sculptures are exposed to all kinds and weather so protecting these fantastic landmarks which Sarah created is really important to ensure families and their children can continue to enjoy them throughout the trail for many months and years.”
Mark Waters, Commercial Manager at Manchester Galvanizing, added: “We’re delighted to support such a vibrant community art project. Sarah’s work is a real example of how industrial skills can bring ideas to life, and we’re thrilled galvanizing was chosen as a must-have to ensure it can be enjoyed by park visitors for generations.”
